Gantz slams rightist attacks on IDF commander
IDF chief asks yeshiva students to condemn attacks against Judea and Samaria Division head
IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz visited the Or Etzion yeshiva Wednesday and called for an end to the targeting of Judea and Samaria Division Commander Brigadier-General Nitzan Alon.
Earlier this week extreme rightists attacked Alon as he was driving through a major West Bank junction. The IDF said a number of youths gathered round his car, beat and kicked it.
"Brigadier-General Alon is an officer with many rights who has devoted his life to the safety of Israel and its citizens. I am certain that you, like me, oppose such acts and any attempt at harming the authority of IDF officers. These actions must be condemned," Gantz said.
The IDF chief arrived at the yeshiva immediately after visiting a summer camp for orphans of the military's fallen soldiers, where he said Israel was the only state still suffering from threats of elimination.
"We know in what kind of state and reality we are living – we are the only state in the world with enemies who still want to destroy us," Gantz said.
