Israel protested in Turkey science fair

Pro-Islamic demonstrators stage small rally in protest of Israel's participation in Chemistry Olympiad

A handful of pro-Islamic demonstrators have peacefully protested Israel's participation in an international science competition held in Turkey.

The protesters, identifying themselves as members of the Ankara Freedom of Belief Platform, denounced Israel Monday for participating in the Chemistry Olympiad, saying it must first "pay the price for its massacres," a reference to last year's killing of nine Turkish activists by Israeli forces on an aid ship that attempted to break the blockade on Gaza.

The incident has seriously deteriorated relations between Turkey. Turkey insists Israel must offer compensation for the victims and apologize for the killings before ties can be repaired.

Israel has refused to apologize so far, claiming its forces were defending themselves.
