No injuries were reported by the Palestinians.
Some two hours after the strike, a rocket was launched at Israel, landing in an open area in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council.
A council spokesperson said the Color Red alert sounded prior to the explosion. No injuries or damage were reported.
The IDF said the mission was carried out following Tuesday's rocket fire on the south.
"We will not abide any attempt to harm Israelis or IDF soldiers. The IDF will continue to act determinedly against any terror element," a military statement said.
The IDF added it hold Hamas responsible for the fire.
