The cause of the blast, which occurred in an apartment complex located above a restaurant in a three-story building, remains unclear at this time; but is believed to be an electrical malfunction.
Owners of businesses in the affected area – many of whom arrived on the scene on Friday night and Saturday morning to inspect the damage – are expected to receive official municipal notification regarding the area's restriction on Sunday.
Israel Electric Corp teams are at the scene, and are working to replace damaged cables in the area, in hopes of restoring power as soon as possible.
Police do not suspect foul play in the case, but forensics teams were sent to the scene this morning to collect evidence.
The blast radius spanned over 30 yards, leaving massive amounts of debris in its wake. City maintenance crews have been working since Friday night to clear the debris.
