The US Geological Survey says a powerful earthquake measuring 6.2 has struck a remote area in southern Kyrgyzstan on the border with Uzbekistan.
No casualties or serious damage were immediately reported from the temblor, which hit at about 1:35 a.m. local time 400 kilometers (250 miles) from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous Central Asian nation. (AP)
