Senior UN sources are willing to intervene in the dispute between Israel and Lebanon over their joint maritime border in order to prevent a conflict and enable each state to utilize the resources within its territory, a diplomatic source told Lebanon's Daily star newspaper.
"The purpose of determining a border is to prevent sources of conflict. This is a source of conflict," the source noted. The dispute between Israel and Lebanon stems from estimations that the maritime border area has gas and oil reservoirs. (Ynet)
