New soldiers want Golani

IDF says new recruits show high motivation to join combat units, Golani most popular choice

IDF's 2011 recruitment round underway: The army's round of recruitment to IDF field units will official open Sunday, with the first day of recruitment for the Golani Brigade.

IDF figures show that the high motivation for combat service among Israel's youths has been maintained this summer, with more than 73% of recruits with suitable attributes choosing to join field units.

"The phenomenon of ground forces preference continues, with a prominent desire for enlisting in the ground forces, headed by Golani," an IDF source said. "The great desire of these young people to perform combat service is also being seen in the armored, engineering and artillery corps."

Meanwhile, the number of new recruits who will be joining the IDF's aerial defense units has also grown, in order to facilitate the deployment of yet another Iron Dome anti-missile system. The advance system was deployed in the south a few months ago and showed impressive success in intercepting Gaza rockets aimed at Israeli communities.

In the future, the army's aerial defense crops are expected to grow even more, once the Magic Wand anti-missile system is also deployed and deemed operational.
