Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed Sunday Samir Othman al-Sheikh as new governor of the northeastern province of Dier al-Zour, the private Sham FM radio station reported.
Al-Sheikh replaced Hussain Arnous, who was transferred to the southern province of al-Qunaitera to hold the new governor post there, as the president fired former governor of al-Qunaitera Khalil Mashhadiah, said the report. (News agencies)
