Official: Kandahar mayor killed in blast

The mayor of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar city was killed in a suicide bomb attack on Wednesday, a spokesman for the provincial governor said.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a corridor near Mayor Ghulam Haidar Hamidi's office, said Zalmay Ayoubi, the spokesman for the Kandahar provincial governor, adding the bomb appeared to be hidden in the man's turban. (Reuters)
