Turkey approves new army chiefs

Turkish President Abdullah Gul approved the appointment of new chiefs for the country's ground forces, navy and air force on Thursday, a spokesman for Gul said, after four top generals quit in protest last week at the jailing of officers in coup conspiracy cases.

The spokesman said the appointment of General Necdet Ozel as head of the armed forces had also been agreed. (Reuters)
