July busiest month in B-G Airport history

Some 2.85 million passengers expected to pass through Israel's international airport this summer. Travelers advised to arrive three hours before scheduled flight departure. Leading destinations: Greece, US, Germany

Last month was the busiest July in the history of Ben-Gurion Airport, according to figures released by the Israel Airports Authority (IAA).

Some 1.365 million passengers passed through Israel's international airport in July, including arrivals and departures, tourists and Israelis – a 15% rise compared to the same month last year.

According to the IAA figures, the summer of 2011 is expected to be the busiest summer of all times at Ben-Gurion Airport, with 2.83 million passengers.

The busiest day so far was Thursday, July 28, with 61,091 passengers on 373 flights.

According to Israel Airports Authority figures, the leading destinations this summer for both Israeli and foreign passengers are Greece, the United States, Germany, France, Italy and Russia.

According to IAA CEO Kobi Mor, the Authority is in the midst of a wide-scale runway infrastructure project while operating the airport with a 9% annual traffic growth.

"The Ben-Gurion Airport runway project is being performed while shortening the timetables and strictly ensuring flight safety. In August the airport will operate two runways, returning to one runway in September until the works are completed in about two years," Mor promised.

The IAA advises all passengers to arrive at the airport as early as three hours before their flight is scheduled to depart. Travelers are also advised to check the updated departure or arrival time before leaving for the airport.

For the updated flight schedule please visit the IAA's website at www.iaa.gov.il or dial *247327 for departures and *465727 for arrivals.
