The Chinese chief of the general staff, General Chen Bingde, offered President Shimon Peres congratulations on his 88th birthday.
During a meeting between the two at the President's Residence in Jerusalem the general said, "Your health is not only a blessing for Israel, but also for world peace and peace and stability in the Middle East." (Ronen Medzini)
