Al-Jazeera calls on Israel to release reporter

Al-Jazeera has called for the immediate release of the head of its Afghanistan bureau, who was allegedly arrested by Israel in the West Bank last week.
In a statement received by AFP on Wednesday, the Qatar-based news network "asks the Israeli authorities to immediately release reporter Samer Allawi," who was arrested "for no reason while on holiday with his family in the occupied West Bank." The director of Al-Jazeera's Jerusalem bureau, Walid al-Omary, said Tuesday that Allawi was arrested on August 10 as he was about to cross the Allenby Bridge, which connects the West Bank and Jordan.
