Israel summons Spanish ambassador over Palestinian state issue

The Foreign Ministry summoned Spain's ambassador to Israel following Spanish Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez's announcement that the European nation will recognize a Palestinian state in September.

Naor Gilon, who heads the Foreign Ministry's European Division, expressed disappointment in Jimenez's statements. The Spanish ambassador said in response that Spain's position on the matter is contingent on the wording of the request that is to be submitted to the UN by the Palestinians in September, as well as on consultations with the European Union.
