2010 sees rise in civilian R&D spending

National spending on civilian research and development totals NIS 35.8 billion, making up 4.4% of GDP last year

The national spending on civilian research and development totaled NIS 35.8 billion (about $10 billion) in 2010 and made up 4.4% of the gross domestic product, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported Tuesday.

The national spending on civilian R&D rose by 1.2% in 2010, following a 3.4% drop in 2009 and a 3.8% increase in 2008.

This reversed trend points to the recovery of the research and development field following the 2009 global financial crisis.
