Abbas urged Shalah to reach cease-fire during escalation

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas asked Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah to reach a cease-fire during the recent escalation in the Gaza Strip, the London-based daily al-Hayat reported on Monday.
According to the report, which cited a Palestinian source, Abbas had urged restraint in order not to play into the hands of Israel and make it appear as the victim. The source added that Shalah accepted the request and decided to reach a cease-fire with Israel (Elior Levy).
