Yemen defense minister survives mine blast
Yemen's defence minister narrowly escaped death on Tuesday after his convoy drove over a landmine in the country's volatile south, a government official said.
General Mohammed Nasser Ahmed survived the explosion, which killed two of his guards and injured four others during a visit to the southern province of Abyan, where Islamist militants suspected of links to al Qaeda are contesting army control. (Reuters)
