Presto Engineering to open Israel plant

Attention chip manufacturers: Moshe Zalcberg, former CEO of Cadence Israel, establishing Israeli branch of California-based company which will provide engineering services for high-tech firms from printed circuit board industry

Moshe Zalcberg, until recently the CEO of Cadence Israel, is currently establishing the Israeli branch of Presto Engineering, which provides engineering services for high tech companies from the printed circuit board (chip) industry.

Presto, based in San Jose, California, will open a sales center and a service lab in Israel that will cater mainly to Israeli startups in the relatively mature qualification stage of their product development.

The designated location for Presto's Israel plant is Herzliya and Zalcberg is currently recruiting 15 employees for the company's Israel operations. This is Presto's third branch outside of the US – the two other branches are located in France. The Israeli branch will specialize in high-speed radio frequency (RF) chips.

Presto's arrival to Israel is good news as it indicates that the local market is maturing and it is responding to growing demand on the part of chip manufacturers for qualification testing before manufacturing release.

Unlike providers of engineering services for chip manufacturers in their design and development stage such as Synopsis, Catalyst and Cadence, Presto caters to companies at a much more advanced pre-production stage.

"It's true that VC funds do not invest as much in startups in the hardware Industry, but the companies that do exist are maturing and producing more and more board series in larger batches", Zalcberg told Calcalist.

"Testimony to the quality chip manufacturers in Israel is the slew of exits we've seen here lately in which one chip company after another was acquired by global giants. All you have to do is mention Provigent."
