German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle says his country won't take part in the UN conference marking the 10th anniversary of the 2001 Durban conference against racism and xenophobia.
"Unfortunately, we cannot rule out the possibility that the event will serve as a stage for anti-Semitic statements, as has happened in the past," Westerwelle explained during an EU ministers' meeting. He added that the decision "stems from our special responsibility toward Israel." (Ronen Medzini)
