An official says a bus has fallen into a river swollen by monsoon rains in northern India, killing 12 passengers.
Government spokesman Amit Chandola says 29 people were rescued from the Tons river and hospitalized with injuries near Dehradun, the capital of Uttrakhand state. He says the accident occurred Sunday when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a sharp curve. The mountainous area is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of the state capital.
