Report: Israeli diplomat maintains evacuated Cairo embassy

Israel left a diplomat behind to maintain its Cairo embassy after evacuating the ambassador and dozens of other staff and their families on Saturday, an Israeli official said.

The diplomat, identified as the consul for state affairs and Ambassador Yitzhak Levanon's deputy, will remain in Egypt while Israel weighs a response to overnight demonstrations during which the Cairo office tower housing the mission was overrun, the official said. (Reuters)
