US sees wider recognition of need for Mideast talks

There is a "growing recognition" that core Israel-Palestinian issues can only be resolved through peace negotiations -- not through a Palestinian statehood bid at the United Nations, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday.

The United States has warned that a Palestinian statehood bid at the UN General Assembly, which begins on Sept. 21, would damage chances of reviving peace talks that have been frozen for nearly a year. (Reuters)
