Germany aims to prevent confrontation over Palestinian UN bid

Germany said on Monday it wants to avoid a dangerous "confrontation" that could be prompted by the Palestinian drive for UN recognition.

"Our goal is to avoid a confrontation in New York, a confrontation that could have unforeseeable consequences for peace and stability in the Middle East," German government spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters. "Our efforts are directed at resuming the peace negotiations." (AFP)
