Merkel urges Abbas to accept Quartet proposal

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday spoke to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and urged him to accept the Quartet's proposal for the resumption of peace talks with Israel.
On Sunday, Abbas stressed he won't resume direct talks without a settlement construction freeze. (AFP)
