Officials say suspected Kurdish rebels have killed two soldiers in an ambush in southeastern Turkey. Three rebels were killed in an ensuing clash. The rebels, who are fighting for autonomy in the region, have increased attacks, killing dozens of security force members and at least 14 civilians since July.
They have also abducted state employees, including 12 teachers.The Interior Ministry said Friday three other soldiers were injured when the rebels fired on them in the attack in Sirnak province late Thursday. It said troops later chased the rebels, killing three of them. Authorities, meanwhile, detained dozens of people across Turkey for alleged ties to the rebels. (AP)
