Police go on wild goat chase

Detectives performing routine arrest surprised to find a live goat in trunk of stolen vehicle

Police detectives on Sunday arrested a resident of southern Israel, who is known to the police, on suspicion of car theft. However, the detectives were caught off guard when they asked the driver to open the trunk – and out came a live goat.

The arrest was performed by detectives from the Etgar unit, which specializes in operations against vehicle thieves. During a routine round, the detectives spotted a familiar suspect, and after running a background check, they discovered that he was driving a stolen vehicle.

After initiating the arrest, the detectives noticed that the rear part of the car was sunken. They asked the driver to open the trunk, and to their amazement a fuzzy white goat leaped out and started running away. The stunned police officers chased the goat, and finally managed to capture it.

During his investigation, the suspect claimed that after stealing the vehicle from one of the communities near the southern city of Sdereot, he spotted a goat wandering around one of the courtyards and decided to steal it too.

The police are trying to locate the owner of the stolen vehicle – as well as the owner of the stolen goat.
