Abbas welcomes prisoner exchange deal
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the prisoner exchange deal that would see the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit in return for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
Earlier, Hamas Politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal held a special press conference in Damascus, in which he called the impending prisoner exchange deal a "national Palestinian achievement." (AFP)
