President Shimon Peres said in light of the Shalit deal, "I was pleasantly surprised by the Turkish government's stand. They put everything aside and favored the humanitarian side over politics. I was told that this was done by Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan."
According to Peres, "This is a combination of a special effort between international relations and personal relations." The president spoke during a meeting with David Meidan, the prime minister's emissary to the Shalit talks. (Omri Efraim)
