President Shimon Peres addressed the Shalit deal during a Sukkot event at the President's Residence, saying that "this is a special sukkah, filled with anticipation for a dear guest making his way home. Gilad, a single soldier, has led to a unique test in our history – saving one Jewish soul.
For more than five years, he was alone in prison while the entire nation united in a firm prayer for his safe return home. The wellbeing of every soldier is like the wellbeing of all of Israel. Israel would not have been established without the bravery of IDF soldiers," Peres said. (Ronen Medzini)
