IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz sent a letter to IDF soldiers and officers on the occasion of Gilad Shalit's return from captivity in which he stated that Gilad's release reflects the army's commitment to the values of camaraderie and the sanctity of life.
He nevertheless warned that Israel's enemies will continue to try to harm Israeli citizens. "We are ready to meet all security challenges this deal entails and are eager to act resolutely against any element which endangers our citizens and borders while maintaining the IDF's moral fortitude."
