Petition filed against Grapel deal

MK Michael Ben Ari (National Union) and the far-right religious party Eretz Yisrael Shelanu (Our Land of Israel) have filed a petition to the High Court of Justice against the swap deal intended to release US-Israel citizen Ilan Grapel from a Cairo prison in exchange for 25 Egyptian inmates held in Israel.
The petitioners claimed the government, and not the cabinet, is the only one authorized to approve such a deal. They also said that the case of Grapel differs from Gilad Shalit because they believe Grapel is "an anarchist, a leftist, who came to Egypt on his own initiative." (Aviad Glickman)
