US denies selling Egypt warplanes in exchange for Grapel

The US embassy in Israel has denied reports that Washington agreed to sell Egypt F-16 fighter planes during the negotiations to release the Israeli-American national Ilan Grapel.

The embassy said in a statement that there was no truth to the reports, but acknowledged that the US has sold Egypt 220 planes since 1982. (Ynet)
