Ashdod pipe explosion leaves hundreds without water

An explosion in a pipe in Ashdod has left hundreds of residents without water. Municipal workers who attempted to fix the malfunction met with resistance from ultra-Orthodox residents, who claimed that the work disturbs Shabbat.

The municipality then decided to postpone the repairs until Saturday night, providing the residents with water containers for the time being. When the containers proved insufficient, disgruntled neighbors opened a fire-hydrant. (Tova Dadon)
