Bomb explodes at hotel frequented by United Nations staffers in country's south, causing damage but not casualties

A senior Lebanese security official says a bomb has exploded at a hotel frequented by United Nations staffers in the country's south, causing damage but not casualties.

 

The official says the blast went off in the pub of the Queen Elissa Hotel in the port city of Tyre on Wednesday morning.

Five minutes later another explosion damaged a liquor shop in the city, also causing no casualties. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

 

It wasn't immediately clear if UN staffers were the target.

 

There have been several attacks against UN peacekeepers in Lebanon in the past years, most recently in July, when a roadside bomb blew up next to a UN convoy carrying French peacekeepers.

 

That attack in south Lebanon wounding at least five peacekeepers.
