Syria: 16 civilians killed by security forces

Activists said security forces killed 16 people after weekly prayers in the latest crackdown on protests against President Bashar Assad which the United Nations says has killed at least 3,500 people since March. According to other reports, the death toll stands at 18.

Meanwhile, Syrian television said three members of the security forces were killed in an explosion on the city of Hama. (AFP)
