EasyJet plane. Impressive figures

Low-cost flights deemed successful

EasyJet celebrates two years of operation in Israel with 300,000 passengers, 14-20% market share

The easyJet low-cost carrier is celebrating two years of operation in Israel with impressive figures on its penetration into the local market.

Data released by the company show that 196,000 passengers traveled on its Israel-Switzerland and Israel-England routes in the first 10 months of 2011, and that the airline has transported more than 300,000 passengers since launching its activity in Israel.

According to these figures, the company's market share compared to overall aviation activity in Israel stands at some 2%. But an examination of the destinations the company flies to from Israel reveals that since early 2011, easyJet has gained a market share of 20% on the Israel-Switzerland route and 14% on the Israel-England route.

Upon entering Israel, easyJet introduced the low-cost revolution, offering particularly cheap prices. The company launched its activity in Israel in November 2009 with six weekly flights on the London-Tel Aviv route. Another weekly flight was added following the growth in activity.

In August 2010 the company launched the Geneva-Tel Aviv route with four weekly flights, and in December 2012 it introduced four weekly flights to Basel.

"We are proud to celebrate two years of very successful activity in Israel," said Hugh Aitken, the company's UK commercial manager, noting that an increasing number of Israelis are choosing to fly with easyJet because of the attractive prices it offers.

He added that the airline was looking into introducing additional routes from Israel to Europe.
