A military court convicted Amjad Awad,
19, of the murder of five members of the Fogel family
on Monday. Awad's cousin, Hakim,
has already been convicted of murder and sentenced to five consecutive life sentences for his part in the Itamar massacre
dated March 2010.
Amjad murdered Ehud Fogel, 36, Ruth Fogel, 35, Yoav, 11, Elad, 4, and three-month-old Hadas with his bare hands. His cousin Hakim assisted him by holding down the children and shooting Ruth Fogel after Amjad had stabbed her.
Amjad was convicted of all charges against him: five counts of murder, two weapons trafficking counts and conspiracy to commit murder. He entered the courtroom smiling.
MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union)
who attended the hearing, yelled out to the judge: "If you don't demand a death sentence you are sending him to a convalescent home." Right-wing activist Baruch Marzel told Amjad: "Wipe the smile off your face, we'll get to you."
Last month, during a court hearing Amjad confessed
to the murders. A lab report showed his fingerprints at the scene of the crime and a weapon the two had stolen in Itamar was found to march a bullet found at the Fogel residence.
