IDF chief halts exercise due to dangerous artillery fire
IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Benny Gantz suspended Wednesday morning a live fire exercise being held in the south after two artillery shells accidentally diverted from their planned target landed in a restricted area, just a few hundred meters from where OC Ground Forces Command Maj.-Gen. Sami Turgeman was standing.
After an initial investigation the exercise was allowed to continue with ground forces but without artillery forces. The chief of staff directed the ground forces commander to appoint an inquiry committee that would investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. (Yoav Zitun)
