Tel Aviv: Hundreds march for human rights

Some 1,000 people take part in annual human rights march, protested government policy toward refugees, wave of rightist legislation

More than 1,000 people took to the streets in Tel Aviv on Friday to protest government policy on human rights. Some 700 protesters marched from the Habima Square to the Rabin Square as part of an annual human rights march and were joined by 300 refugees. "Freedom of expression is under investigation," read one sign alluding the wave of rightist legislation.

 

The refugees were protesting grievances involving their rights. They carried signs which read "Detention center in Israel" "I didn’t choose to be a refugee" and "Refugees are not criminals."

Among the protesters was Daphni Leef, one of the leaders of the social protest.

 

In Haifa, some 200 people demonstrated for human rights and slammed the government.

 

Also Friday, some 300 members of the Israel Online Ambassador organization held a demonstration in the Rabin Square. They carried signs reading "Reservists have human rights too" and "Sderot residents have human rights too."
