Japan to buy US F-35 fighters for air force

Japan's government has selected the Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter to bolster its aging air force, announcing Tuesday it will buy 42 aircraft under a multiyear deal.

 

Japan has budgeted the cost of the first four fighters next fiscal year, which starts in April, said Noriyuki Shikata, deputy Cabinet secretary for public relations. (AP)
