Israel says won't oppose US aid to Palestinians
Israel has told the US it would not oppose the transfer of $187 million in American aid to the Palestinian Authority. The funds were frozen following the Palestinians' bid for UN membership.
Israel's decision was reached after the Palestinians discontinued their UN bid and after Congress threatened that similar measures by the Palestinians at the world body would result in the closure of PLO offices in Washington. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
