France urges Syria to allow access to Homs

France is urging Syria's government to allow Arab League observers immediate access to a central city under siege. The observers are expected Monday in Syria. French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said Monday that Syrian authorities should allow the observers access to the city of Homs "starting this afternoon."

The Syrian government has been besieging the Baba Amr district of the city for days, and activists Monday reported at least 10 new deaths from intense shelling. Valero said, "France expresses its strong concerns about the continued deterioration of the situation in Homs." (AP)
