Egyptian border patrol fires at smugglers trying to cross over to Israel; Qassam fired at western Negev
Egyptian border patrol officers fired at smugglers trying to cross over to Israel on Monday night.
The exchange took place as IDF forces were patrolling the sector, leading to initial reports suggesting that the Israeli troops had come under fire.

According to initial details, the incident took place around 7:30 pm. Military sources said that the fire came from across the Egyptian border, adding that security forces were immediately dispatched to the incident's area.
It was quickly discovered that the fire was the result of the Egyptian force's attempt to stop the smugglers.
Shortly beforehand, a Qassam rocket was fired from northern Gaza, exploding in an open area in Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported.
In a similar incident in November, two Egyptian policemen were killed in the same area by smugglers.
Earlier Monday, IDF forces apprehended 12 illegal migrants trying to cross the Israel-Egypt border.
