'Anat Kam law' passes first reading in Knesset

The "Anat Kam law" passed its first Knesset reading on Tuesday. The bill, which was initiated by MK Otniel Schneller (Kadima), proposes to add a clause that criminalizes the possession and transfer of secret material without the intention of harming the security of the state.

The offence will be punishable by a prison term of up to 10 years. Currently, offences of this nature appear under the espionage and treachery clauses, and are punishable by 15 years in prison. (Moran Azulay)
