"We cannot allow a situation whereby people ask women to sit at the back of the bus," said Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz, a member of a governmental committee dealing with the exclusion of women from the public sphere.
The minister suggested that bus drivers be forbidden from opening the back doors as a way of battling the phenomenon. "Once the back doors open, a haredi woman needs to muster a lot of courage to move to the front of the bus," he said. (Attila Somfalvi)
