Iran's Khamenei wants to 'bolster' women's role in Islamic society

Islamic Republic's spiritual leader stresses need for efforts to 'preserve women's potential,' blasts west for humiliating approach to women

As concerns are rising in Israel over the exclusion of women from the public sphere, in the Islamic Republic of Iran, spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is focusing on promoting the role of women in Muslim societies.

 

"Effort should be made to preserve women's potentials and capacities and their role in the society," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

According to the Fars news agency, Khamenei was addressing a large gathering of Iranian academics, students and university professors in Tehran on Wednesday, where he also blasted the West for its instrumental use of women and said their approach to women is humiliating the female gender

 

The Leader said even the most radical feministic views in the West are hitting a blow at women because they have turned women into an instrument for men's lust and lechery.

 

Iran institutes a severe dress code for women, one that forces them to cover their faces and curves, yet there are those who believe that the Islamic Revolution in Iran promoted the status and dignity of the Iranian women who experienced disrespect and suppression and were approached with insolent attitudes before the Revolution.
