Israeli couple films chaos onboard sinking ship

Rosa and David Dor, who were among passengers on Costa Concordia cruise ship, recall moments of horror as boat ran aground off coast of Italy

From the window of their Bat Yam apartment, Rosa and David Dor can catch a view of the Mediterranean Sea, in which they nearly drowned when their cruise ship ran aground off the coast of Tuscany, Italy.

"It was just awful," Rosa told Ynet. "They escorted us out to a ferry and told us that first they're going to evacuate the women and children."

The maritime disaster on Saturday left at least three people dead – two French passengers and a Peruvian crewmember – and some 30 injured, two of which are in serious condition. In addition, 17 people – six crewmembers and 11 passengers – have yet to be located.

Survivor testimonies reveal the chaos and confusion onboard the Costa Concordia moments after it hit rocks and began to tilt.

Eight hours after landing back in Israel, the Dors watch the video and pictures they captured during the dramatic moments. "When we boarded the ship, they told us it would be two hours before our rooms are ready. We left our luggage in the luggage room and took a walk on the boat. When we sat to eat dinner, we felt a strong thump and a jolt," Rosa recounted.

"At first they told us it was a problem with the generator, but then the lights went out suddenly," said David, adding that "the boat tilted on both sides before sinking. It was amazing to see how close we were to the shore. The ship almost touched the lighthouse."
