Avalanches kill 29 in northeastern Afghanistan

Officials say avalanches have killed at least 29 people in Afghanistan's mountainous northeast. Rescuers are still struggling to reach the worst-hit areas, which are cut off by heavy snow blocking the roads.
The Afghan National Disaster Management Agency said Thursday at least 40 more people have been injured in avalanches since Monday in Badakhshan province. (AP)
