EU says Israeli settlements are 'worrying'

The European Union sees Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory as a "worrying" development and calls for the preservation of a viable two-state solution, in a draft declaration obtained by AFP Friday.
"Against the backdrop of worrying developments on the ground in 2011, particularly with regard to settlements, the EU reaffirms its commitment to a two state solution," says the text to be adopted by foreign ministers on Monday. "The legitimacy of the State of Israel and the right of Palestinians to achieve statehood must never be called into question. The viability of the two state solution must be preserved," the draft says. (AFP)
