Palestinians: Shell hits home near Gaza

Sources in Strip say Israeli tank opened fire at neighborhood of Sajaiyeh; no injuries reported, but house sustains damage. Earlier, Qassam explodes in open area in southern community

A shell fired by an Israeli tank hit a private house in the neighborhood of Sajaiyeh, east of Gaza City, Palestinian sources in the Strip reported Saturday morning.

 

There were no reports of injuries in the incident, but the house sustained damage. The Israel Defense Forces said it was "unfamiliar with the incident".

A Color Red rocket alert system was sounded across the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council on Friday night, followed by the explosion of a Qassam rocket in an open area. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

 

The most recent escalation on the Gaza border took place on Monday night, when Israel Air Force aircraft bombed a weapon manufacturing site in the central Gaza Strip, two tunnels in the northern Strip and another tunnel in the south.

 

The Maan news agency reported at the time that two Palestinians had been injured in two separate Israeli strikes in eastern Jabaliya and Beit Lahiya.

 

Last weekend, the IDF attacked a terrorist cell about to fire rockets into Israel. Palestinian sources reported that the Air Force had tried twice to hit a cell moving east of Rafah, but was unsuccessful.
